Coffee anyone?
Friday, June 30th, 2006I got myself a new espresso machine about a week ago. Its kinda simple one, with one espresso filter/dispenser… and also a steam wand for frothing the milk to make a nice cuppa warm cappucino. However, due to its nature being a single boiler design… its quite tricky to time between frothing the milk and extracting the coffee. Which to do first? By the time you finish frothing, the water wont be hot enough to extract the espresso… and by the time you finish extraction, you wont get proper steam anymore. But - its a trick I have learned to perfect. Just that it took me about a week of sucky tasting coffee.
I have also began buying some really exciting, and needless to say, very pricey coffee. Among some of them are the Jamaican Blue Mountain, Hawaiian Kona, Guatemalan Elephant, Italian Roasta, and also the mass produced Illy Espresso. I have brewed the blue mountain and the kona using some paper filters… and gosh… they are good! No wonder the price is so high… it bloody costed me 10GBP/100grams (Blue Mt.) and 9GBP/100grams (Kona) respectively. The taste of the Blue Mt. is so special - it feels like I am eating something! The coffee "sediment" left in the mouth does not feel irritating. Although the texture of the coffee may look very thin but dont let its looks do the decieving…the sweetness is aromatic beyond my first expectation. At no point did I felt it was bitter… and I drank it neat without sugar added! The Kona has a slight tangy and buttery taste. Its good… but I still prefer the Blue Mt.
Im now begining to try perfecting my espresso shot with this little machine. Hopefully I can find a proper grounded espresso to obtain the perfect espresso shot with a nice crema to cope with. Use it to make a cup of double shot cappucino and it would be puuuuuuuuuurrrfect to go with an amaretto biscuit…
Will come up with some pictures on how to make a cup of cappucino when I get more pictures taken.
