Item Lost

Sunday, May 21st, 2006

Well well well… who would have thought that I could actually lose my pair of jeans after sending it for drying up! Goodness gracious! It was a pair of Levi’s, one of my favourites in fact. Sigh!

I remember clearly I placed it into the washing machine. It was washed. Then I took it out, placed it into the laundry bag together with the other damp clothes. Brought it into the car. Drove to the landry shop. Popped a dryer. Threw the whole bunch of damp clothes into the beast. Popped the dryer door closed. Spent a good 2 quid on it. Went back home.

Went to laundry shop an hour later. Popped the dryer open. Glad it was all dry and clean now. Put everything into the laundry bag. Left and walked home. Sat down and watched TOP GEAR. Started to fold my clothes.

And…

It hit me.

Where is my pair of jeans?!

Now where on eart could it be? Could someone please tell me…from the routine I took and written above… where or when could have my jeans be taken away?!

Urgghhh…!!

Carrow Road Football Challenge 2006

Tuesday, May 16th, 2006

The Carrow Road Football Challenge is an annual event held by Lotus/Proton. Its somewhat like an event which is most highly anticipated by all Lotus/Proton staff here in Hethel. What made so many eager to play in CRFT is because the event is held in Carrow Road Football Stadium itself - yes! The Norwich City Football Club’s homeground! The Canaries downfall from the English Primier League aside; this turf is where great teams like Manchester United once fell to the underdog Canaries! Anyway, this tournament features a 6-a-side football with some slight changes to the normal full field rules. There are 16 teams all together, with 4 groups playing it out in league format. Then the best 2 teams from each group will make it through to the second stage where elimination will start to cut down the last 8 teams.Stanley_accrington_640x480

Team Stanley Accrington, which was the only team that consisted of Malaysian and English players.

My team : "The Stanley Accrington" has endured  a lot of injury turmoil a couple of weeks before the event started. From a full squad of 9 players, we were thinned down to exactly 6. One had torn Archiles tendon, another with a dislocated shoulder and another was down with some kinda infection. Lucky for us, another 3 players made it through last minute via some friend’s recomendation. They are Rob, "Bullet" and Mike. All three of them are playing for some local football clubs, so we’re pretty much secured now.Carrow_road_1

Posing while in between games with fellow team mates, "Bullet" and Rob.

The event was held on Sunday, 14th May 2006. And our first game was against the FLUBS which are mainly chaps from the Buyers Dept. We were practically dominating since the start of the game, having numerous tries on target. However, Flubs goal keeper is a tough nut to crack. The turn of event came when our first substitute came on from bench. Zamir came in replacing Sean, only to be tackled by 2 advancing forwards, thus losing the ball. I stood there on the left flank helpless, as Rob sprinted back to help out the defence. A fruitless sliding tackle from Rob trying to save the situation, a dive from our goalie - and a goal for The Flubs.Carrowroadchallenge06_jay

Tussling for it! Jay up against a player from The Flubs. Game ended with FLubs winning.

Hard luck. Game ended with us losing 1-0.

Next up : FM United. Now… we needed to win this game badly in order to be able to stand a chance to make it through to the next round. After seeing the sub-par performance by FM United’s match against Dynamo  Rapido (also same group as we are), we were all determined that Stanley Accrington would stand a very good chance at hammering this home. A couple of minutes into the match, Zamir made up for his fumble against Flubs by scoring a goal. And next, after a couple of misses, "Bullet" hit his first for the day. End of the game, Stanleys walked out 2-0 in the pocket.Carrowroadchallenge06_zamir

Ouch! Zamir getting some medical attention for the injury he sustained.

At this point, we needed a bad win against Rapido, which was the last group match. If we would have won this, we walk into stage two - else, we pack our bags. Rapido is reputed to be the favourite in our group. They hammered The Flubs flat down with a 3-0 victory, thus we would not let them catch us with our pants down. Assigning Sean to man-mark Rapido’s advancing striker - Johnny was probably the best decision our team captain, Theng, made. We were virtually impenetratable… and our advancing forwards did what they do best - attacking!

However, Bullet fell with agony 5 minutes into the game. He twisted and busted his ankle real bad. And I mean - REAL BAD. Our playmaker and a goalscorer had to be stretched out… with the crowd applausing with support for him, for his sheer performance throughout the game. His brother, Rob had to accompany him to the hospital, thus leaving Stanley with a mere 7 players now. Whistle blew again to commence the game. As I was rushing down the left flank to an possible opening - it hit me. My hamsting pulled and I knew I had to go. Sigh!Carrow_road_zamir_and_i

This is where the pro English players will run out into the pitch. Jay and Zamir posing.

The rest of the game against Rapido saw me sitting by the bench with an ice pack. Felt helpless as Stanleys toiled against the advantageous Rapidos now. However, it was 0-0. This result wasnt good enough to secure our falling-apart team into the next round.

It was after all a very good day of football. A lost we faced, but it was a applausable lost.

The day ended with us taking some pictures here in Carrow Road Football Stadium to capture the moments which we had in such a grand pitch, which I personally could only have seen it via TV over English Primier League before I came over to Norwich. Now, I have played on it, and it will definitely leave a lasting memory.

Due to the nature of my forgetfulness, I doubt my Cornwall travellog will ever made it to its final 3-day log. Either way, I’m no mood to blog on it further on.

I’ll leave this blog alone for the moment - again.

CORNWALL ~ Spring 2006

Thursday, May 4th, 2006

Just some recaps of my recent trip to Cornwall over the long weekend which coincided with May 1st holiday.

  • Day 1 : Friday, 28th April 2006

With a very last minute decision to go ahead with our weekend break in Cornwall, I had much to preparation to do. Mapping our routes, timing and planning out the locations of interests, accomodation etc. etc. Office was over by 12.15noon and Leong and I rushed back home in order for us to be able to sort out the plans and stuff since we wanted to start driving that night itself.

So while Leong went to bed to catch some sleep, I was punching in info into MS AutoRoute and also sweeping across the many pages of Conrnish info on the WWW. We couldnt manage to sort out accomodation via online, but we were determined that it wouldn’t be a problem since there are a lot of B&Bs around in Cornwall (another piece of info from WWW). However, I decided not to take any chances and packed in our sleeping bags as well into the car.Gen2_1

Theng arrived around 9.30pm, when Leong and I just got back home from dinner and was busy doing our last minute packing. When all that’s done, we set off around 10.40pm. Leong took lead to drive first. We planned two driving shifts, with me taking the second after Leong has covered about 400km. Knowing that its gonna be a hell of a long way down to Cornwall, I try my best to sleep. Drove our Gen.2 swiftly down the highways and motorways, passed by London… doze off, wake up, doze off… same travelling routine… you can never ever get a sound sleep. :P

We stopped somewhere for fuel in mid of A303, had some coffee and changed driver with Leong already looking tired. Theng was jolly as he was sleeping soundlessly in the rear seats throughout most of the journey. I was anticipating a long and dark journey… to drive thru the darkness with the cold wind blowing into our car. Shouldnt be that bad.

After about a couple of hours of driving, I reached Bodmin Moor, and the sun was breakin in. Sky’s getting lighter. And I was informing Theng that we need to rush to St. Austell and get to Mevagissey for a nice sunrise view, which is gonna be perfect for photography.

Reached Mevagissey around 5.30am, and gosh it was really beautiful. Mevagissey is a small fishing village…nothing much of interesting stuff here actually, except for some real posh housing which is built on cliffy rocks and over seeing the ocean. Talk about living it large…

We moved on with Leong driving since I am like half dead due to lack of sleep. Didnt take long before I found myself floating into slumber, with some feeling of the occasional bumps of the road.Cornwall_castle_00  Waves

Woke up and found that we have arrived to this small town called Penzance, which at the southern region of Cornwall. We were looking for some B&B and came to realize it was kinda pricey : approx. GBP25/person on average. Finding that Penzance have nothing much to offer except for the St. Michael’s Mount, we decided to move on to St. Ives, which is supposed to be another more "happening" town to the north of Penzance.

Finally found a hotel which cost us GBP50 for 3 person in St. Ives, so we could go on touring the much hyped Land’s End with an ease of mind - without having to worry about where are we gonna crash for the night. Land’s End, is the most southern tip of England. It faces the Atlantic Ocean, and about a quater mile out to its shore is a lighthouse, then the Islands of Sicily lies 28 miles away, and beyond that - America!Lands_end_2

We reached Land’s End just in time for sunset. The panoramic view there is simply breathtaking…with naturally eroded granite cliffs and cavings, crashing waves and the sea breeze of the open yonder from the West - its simply amazing. We waited for the sun to set and took some more pictures before setting off to drive back to St. Ives and settle for the night.

Overall - it was an exhausting day, but a well worthy one. The next day was yet another adventurous day, and I will upload more about it next.Lands_end

Land’s End

Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006

Its really been a while since I last blogged in here. Just kinda lost the inspiration to do so. Anyway, here I am again… now in Spring time 2006. Well, I just got back from Cornwall last night. Reached home around 11.30pm after a grueling 9 hour drive from south-western region of England, all the way back to Norwich. Leong, Theng and I went there for a long weekend get-away since it’s a public holiday for Labor’s Day.

Overall the trip was a memorable one, with plenty of scenic views which I have never seen in my life before… well maybe I have seen them on TV or magazines but not in reality. It feels entirely different while standing on a cliff edge, looking down a steep wall into the Atlantic Ocean, while the castles of medieval times back up behind me… Its so different that what’s seen on medias. I dont think words could describe it properly… one just have to be there to experience such majestic scene and let themselve be engulfed within it.

I will upload some of the shots I have taken in Cornwall, of the places of interest we’ve been to in a Travel Log format… as soon as I get home. For now, its back to work… :)

Cheers!
