Well, its been a while now since i left my blog alone in despair. Geez… I sound like an evil fella. Anyway, we had some sort of chap goh meh celebration at my house a few days ago - last weekend to be more specific. For those who don’t know what is chap goh meh… it is the mark of the last day of Chinese New Year; the fifteenth day of the auspicious celebration.
Anyway, it wasn’t really a grand celebration. Nothing alike what it would be back at home in Malaysia. Alan came over my place and we cooked dinner all together. It was a plan which spanned over a couple of days over before we finally executed it on that Sunday night. So, I had a few dish of my own served, which one turned out to be a real disaster! LOL
We took turns to cook since the kitchen was kinda small. So while Alan was busy making his Oyster Sauced Chicken, I was busy preparing all the ingredients I needed for my Butter & Wheat Prawns and also the Tom Yum Salmon. Leong did helped me out with the defrosting of the prawns and also the salmon fishes. Hehe… and he does what he does best - preparing tea for everyone!
As soon as Alan got his dish done, I started my "master chef" mode. Battering eggs, deep frying the prawns, frying the wheat and all those secret ingridients in a hot mixture of oil and butter… I was practically multi-tasking since I was also cooking the tom yum at the same time. Well it was an easy one cuz its all ready made from the tom yum paste within the bottle - hahaha! Then came the disaster. I was trying to make egg strands which turned out to be a total failure! Apparently I havent got enough oil to fry the eggs into strands, cuz there was like just probably 3mm of oil in the pan. Sigh…!
Nevertheless, I got the taste right… and we all tucked into our dinner right after Hussen cooked his own private vegetarian courses. He doesn’t consume garlic, as well as onions, and he doesn’t eat meat… don’t ask me why ‘cuz I never understood this chap. HE’S SPECIAL AND VERY DIFFERENT TO OTHERS. Haha…!
Food was all right, and everyone practically was full by the end of the evening. Thanks to Leong, we even had some mandarin oranges for dessert! Can’t miss out on mandarin oranges for Chinese New Year can we?! Heh…
So there you go… a chap goh meh posting written on Valentine’s day… how great! I’m just counting my days until I get back to Malaysia… boy I can already taste the dalcha with roti telur! urgghh! Teh tarik satu macha!!
